For schools
Bring KS3 algebra to life
Volt Racers is an electric racing game where students pick the right battery equations to charge their car and race ahead. Every battery requires algebraic substitution — the same skill covered in the KS3 National Curriculum.
Students play because it is a game. They practise because the game requires it.
Curriculum
Mapped to the KS3 National Curriculum
Volt Racers covers the substitution strand of the KS3 algebra programme of study across three circuits:
Circuit 1
Linear Cup
- Substituting into linear expressions with one and two operations
- Reading and interpreting algebraic notation
- Understanding what it means for an equation to be true
Circuit 2
Quadratic Grand Prix
- Expressions involving brackets and order of operations
- Substituting into expressions with powers (x²)
- Negative values of x
- Evaluating inequalities — understanding > < ≥ ≤
Circuit 3
Cubic Championship
- Multi-term quadratic expressions
- Cubic expressions (x³)
- Decimal values of x
- Mixed expression types including inequalities
Pedagogy
Wrong answers are the learning moment
Most educational games treat mistakes as failures. Volt Racers treats them as the lesson.
When a student picks the wrong battery, the game shows them exactly what the correct substitution looks like — step by step, in plain language. The post-race feedback panel mirrors what a teacher would write on a board: here is what you put, here is what it evaluates to, here is where it went wrong.
Each wrong battery is also generated deliberately. A battery showing 3x + 2 = 13 when the correct answer is 3x + 1 = 13 targets the specific mistake of misreading the constant. The game tracks which types of mistakes each player makes.
Three things the game reinforces with every race:
- Substitution is mechanical — replace x and do the arithmetic
- Order of operations matters every single time
- Negative values of x behave in specific, learnable ways
Setup
Simple to set up. No IT department needed.
We set up your school
We link your school to its email domain — for example, @stmarys.sch.uk. That is all we need from you to get started.
Share a link with your students
Students visit the site and register with their school email address. The system recognises the domain and gives them full access immediately.
Students play anywhere
Any browser works — school laptop, Chromebook, iPad, or their own phone at home. Nothing needs to be installed. No app store required.
That is it. No MDM configuration. No IT ticket. No per-device licence keys. If a student can open a browser, they can play.
Pricing
Simple annual pricing
| Students | Annual price |
|---|---|
| Up to 30 | £30 |

- Annual licence, renewed each year
- Covers all students registered with your school email domain
- Invoice issued on purchase — BACS bank transfer accepted
- Purchase order accepted
- On expiry, students revert to the free Linear Cup trial automatically — no data is lost and no action is needed from you
Data and safeguarding
Your students' data stays safe
We know that data and safeguarding are not optional considerations for schools — they are requirements. Here is what we do:
What we collect
- Student email address (to connect them to your school)
- Game progress — which races have been completed, accuracy scores
- Accessibility preferences — font size, colour mode, and so on
What we do not collect
- Names (unless a student adds one voluntarily)
- Location data
- Behavioural or advertising data of any kind
How it is stored
- All data stored on servers within the European Union
- Each student's data is only accessible to that student
- No student data is shared with any third party for advertising
Compliance
- UK GDPR and Data Protection Act 2018 compliant
- ICO-aligned data processing practices
- Student data never used for advertising or profiling
Data Processing Agreement
We provide a DPA for every school licence. This sets out clearly what data we hold, what we do with it, and how it can be deleted. The DPA is available before purchase — you do not have to buy first and ask questions later.
Accessibility
Works for every student in your class
Volt Racers ships with a full accessibility suite, built in from the start — not added as an afterthought.
- Dyslexia-friendly font
Toggle to OpenDyslexic for all text
- Colour-blind modes
Three palettes covering the most common types
- Shape-coded difficulty indicators
Shape is always used as well as colour — never colour alone
- Reduced motion mode
Non-essential animations can be turned off
- High contrast mode
Exceeds WCAG AAA on interactive elements
- Full keyboard navigation
The game can be played without a mouse
- Screen reader support
All equations are readable by assistive technology
All accessibility settings are saved to the student's account and follow them across devices.
